FREQUENT QUESTIONS

What is orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment is a speciality of dentistry that deals with the correction of incorrectly positioned teeth and bones. In this way, it helps to keep teeth clean and harmonious, avoiding premature loss due to cavities and gum disease. It also prevents premature wear of teeth and joint problems.

Who should have orthodontic treatment

It is likely that you will need orthodontic treatment if you have:

  • Overbite
  • Open bite: when there is a space between the upper and lower teeth in the clasp.
  • Deviated midline
  • Crossbite: when the upper teeth do not fall slightly in front of the lower teeth
  • Underbite
  • Gaps or separations between the teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Misaligned teeth

Do I need any additional tests before my orthodontic treatment

We usually send special studies such as: panoramic X-ray, intraoral and extraoral photos, lateral cephalometric X-ray.

What types of orthodontic treatments do you offer

We have different appliances such as:

  • Conventional brackets
  • Ceramic brackets-Self-ligating
  • Flow Jac System
  • Lingual braces
  • Invisalign (clear aligners)

How does the process for clear aligners work

For the treatment with clear aligners, we will need three different appointments. The first appointment will be a consultation, during which we will scan your mouth and give you an order for a panoramic radiograph, a lateral cephalometric radiograph, and some extraoral and intraoral photos. With this, we can conduct the study for your aligners, which costs $215 USD. As soon as we have the results of your exams, it will take us three days to plan your treatment, which we will present to you for approval; this second appointment can be virtual. After your treatment is approved, it will take up to 15 days to have your aligners ready for delivery, which will be the third appointment and must be in person.

How often should I schedule my check-ups with invisible aligners

For these, it is not mandatory to have monthly check-ups as with conventional braces. If you are in the city, we will gladly schedule monthly check-ups. If you are out of the country, we can conduct your check-ups via video consultation. It is important that you use your last aligner as a retainer until you get a definitive one and attend a consultation to confirm that your treatment was successfully completed or if any refinement process is necessary.

Can I see a prediction of my orthodontic treatment

You can see a prediction of your orthodontic treatment from your evaluation appointment. We have special software that will help you understand your treatment.
